August 20, 1895, between 11 and 12 o'clock at night, the crowd swarmed toward the saloon where they heard four gun shots there they saw John W. Hardin dead. His brains were oozing out of his head. He was shot in the head by John Selman
The reason was Hardin had insulted him personally and Selman didn't like it too much. Hardin was mad because Selman had his wife arrested for carrying a pistol.
At 11 'o' clock Mr. E.L. Shackleford and Mr. Selman went to the saloon. At the bar Hardin and Henry Brown were shaking some dice. Hardin kept his eye on Selman. When he thought Selman's eye was off him, he reached for his gun. But, Selman grabbed his gun too and began shooting. He knew Hardin wore a metal breast plate so he shot him in the head. He missed the second time, but the next two hit his body. " Stop! Stop shooting Hardin's dead".
