After killing Hardin, John Selman did not live long to celebrate victory. A United States Deputy Marshall George Scarborough and Selman were playing a game of cards at four in the morning. They were playing when Selman stood up and said "George come. I need to see you" So they were walking in an alley when Selman told George that his son was in jail in Juarez, Mexico. Selman said that he wanted George to help him get his son out of jail. George said. "I can't help you." So Selman got mad and said, "I believe I will kill you." Before Selman could get his gun George had already begun shooting. The first shot hit Selman in the neck. The second hit him in the left leg. The final shot that killed Selman hit him in the lower left rib. I used the information from the appendix in the book THE LIFE OF JOHN W. HARDIN AS WRITTEN BY HIMSELF.University of Oklahoma Press, 1961 |
