I interviewed one of our lunch ladies Ruth Sutherland maiden name Bingham. The reason I interviewed her was because she was on the Comanche Maidens basketball team that won the State Championships. To win the championships they had to play 3 games, and win them. The 1st game they played was the team of Decatur, the 2nd team they had to play was Fredericksburg,and the 3rd team they played was McLean. So after they won all 3 games they won state.

When she first started playing basketball you could only bounce the ball once and then pass it or shoot it, but as time went on you could bounce it twice and then pass it or shoot it. You could only stay on one side of the court too. But the shots are still the same as they are today , but they only got one free throw. And when they had a jump ball they actually had to jump for it.

The coach's name for their team was Coach Marguerite Ross, who had never experienced or played the game of basketball. And we would all like to congratulate the Comanche Maidens basketball team of 1951 who won the State Championships
