| Today we have a great Elementary School but what was it like back then? Do you ever wonder? Well I sure do so let's go back through wonder years and see! I interviewed Mrs. Bruton and this is what she had to say. Where there is the present-day Elementary School there was a three story brick building named J. B. Layne Elementary. She says, "the library and restrooms were in the basement." They went there in bad weather. There principal was Mr. Irby and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms were on the north and south wings. The 4th and 5th grade was in a bigger building. The playground was in the same place as it is now. What was the "pink house"? It was a special education house. So there you have it--the J.B. Layne Elementary. |
