THE COMANCHE CHIEF

By Brooke W. 3rd grade

Mr. W.A. Beeman was the owner and publisher of the first newspaper in Comanche . Mr.Beeman bought a printing press in Georgetown, Texas and was brought back in a ox drawn wagon. The early settlers wanted to have a newspaper to help them voice their need for law and order. Raiding Indians and outlaws were a big problem in early Comanche. The most famous person to ever work at the Comanche Chief was Robert T. Hill. In his spare time he would explore mountains and became very interested in rocks and fossils. He later became as the Father Of Geology. When he died his ashes were spread on Round Mountain. Since 1920 the Comanche Chief is owned by the James C. Wilkerson family including my dad, Lance. a fourth generation.
