Comanche History,
the Chamber of Commerce
Sarah T. 3rd grade
Hello!
Today I would like to tell you a little about the Chamber of Commerce.
I interviewed my Grandfather, Dr. W.T. Calhoun, a retired dentist.
He gave me this information:
Comanche
was an early frontier town. In 1950 it seemed Comanche was dying.
We had little money. One more thing, we did not have complete
mail. Comanche needed $1,500 to buy signs for our streets. Some
men formed the Jr. Chamber of Commerce. They raised money, and
a few signs were bought. Each time money was saved we bought a
few more signs. The people of Comanche got very excited. The Chamber
of Commerce became a leader to build the dam and form Lake Procter,
It took them 15 years to finish the dam. The Chamber of Commerce
helped do other things for Comanche.
This is
the Chamber of Commerce Building.
