Comanche, Texas

Carli V. 3rd

Comanche is the Spanish spelling for a Ute Indian word "Komantcia." It means "enemy" or "one always wanting to fight." There is a Comanche legend that there were two great chiefs in the Shoshone tribe that had a disagreement. And they parted ways. The group known to be the Comanche people went south into the territory of the Southwest Plains. There they found wild horses and they soon learned how to capture and ride them. The Comanches called themselves "the people."
