Construction Progress
By Shelby Hilliard and LS
The construction workers
are laying plastic sheeting over the sand and then cutting and
inserting carton forms. These forms are 6 inches thick, come in
5' X 30" sheets, and are basically made of baffled cardboard.
The Job Superintendent, John Walden, stated that this is a relatively
new construction technique that is designed to prevent cement
slabs from cracking. It works especially well when building in
an area where the land is sandy. When the ground moves, it crushes
the cardboard, thus preventing the slab from cracking. The date
when they started doing this it was April 15, 1999. On October
25, 1999 the concrete was poured and the parking lot was striped.
After that on October 25, 1999 our new lunchroom was finished.
On November 3, 1999, the first students came through the serving
line.
Just starting on our
new cafeteria March 25,1998
Almost finished. Where
